Your Input: Brian Bannister

Sorry for the long layoff - I've been quite busy over the weekend with work and playing baseball myself. (For those who don't know, I am a second baseman and a relief pitcher in a men's amateur league.) In keeping with the lazy theme, I'm going to post a few pieces of data, a video clip, and some charts on Royals' sabermetric-friendly Brian Bannister. I'd like the readers to give their opinions on Bannister's mechanics, Pitch f/x data, and other stats that I have included (as well as others if you'd care to research/include them).
The first piece of data is his Pitch f/x chart:
| type | Speed (MPH) | Break x (inches) | Break z (inches) | Balls | Strikes Called | Strikes Swinging | Foul/Foul tip | In play outs | Singles | Doubles | Triples | Home Runs |
| Fastball | 89.48 | -1.85 | 10.26 | 246 | 178 | 24 | 111 | 97 | 20 | 8 | 2 | 6 |
| Curveball | 77.93 | 5.65 | -3.8 | 82 | 26 | 13 | 22 | 28 | 8 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| Slider | 86.05 | 1.71 | 5.19 | 86 | 25 | 20 | 59 | 49 | 12 | 6 | 0 | 2 |
| Change | 84.44 | -6.54 | 3.69 | 66 | 22 | 7 | 32 | 29 | 6 | 5 | 0 | 2 |
More after the jump...
If you want to refine the Pitch f/x data, go here and filter for more results. That said, here's his fastball chart:

And here's a video of his mechanics with two pauses at/near footstrike:

By just looking at the numbers, even though his K/BB ratio is good, it looks like he’s pitching behind hitters too often this season. He has good stuff, but not great. It’s hard enough to pitch behind to hitters when you’re stuff is great. Also, just by the numbers, the change appears to be getting him in trouble (only 5mph difference from FB) which is an important pitch for success for MLB starters.
