Request: MadBum

Is there anyway you could do some analysis on Madison Bumgarner?  This kid has rocketed up the prospect charts and I want to know what his durability will be like.  According to the prospectors, San Francisco has the makings of one of the best 1,2 punches in the majors and I'd love to know whether or not you agree.

Didn't make the word requirement, so let me just take a few to say thank you.  I really appreciate this analysis.  I wish I knew what I know now when I was younger.

I would also like to see a Bumgarner analysis.

In particular, I was wondering how or if his peculiar arm action (in which he brings the ball very far horizontally behind his back) could cause injury problems and if it is worth it for the San Fran coaching staff to try and fix it.

i'm pretty sure

part of the reason he does this is to increase the range of motion… as the range of motion increases he is afforded more distance to accelerate the distal point (the fingertips) and thus add velocity to the ball (but a larger angular acceleration is going to blow up the torque across his elbow and shoulder)… so maybe you’re looking at a potential injury risk… if you fix it who knows if madison is going to respond with a performance on the order of his current success… but if you let it go unchanged then maybe he never gets a chance to take his studliness to the major league level… but this is all speculation and i’ve never actually seen him throw (aside from some really crappy youtube videos)

Apparently the giants tried to tinker with his motion early last year. It didn’t go so well, so he switched back to his old motion and proceeded to dominate for the rest of the year. I think they’ll go easy on the changes, at least for a while now.

Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.
