Mystery WAR Graph I
Today I'm introducing an occasional feature I hope to do from time-to-time. I imagine someone somewhere is doing this, too, but if so, I haven't seen it. All WAR data is taken from Rally's famous historical WAR pages at baseballprojection.com.
The graph above is of the players' seasons ranked from best to worst. Both of these guys are still in baseball. Both are still big names. Both have playoff experience. Both are position players. More details and the answer after the jump.
Got it yet?
Both are primarily known as outfielders, but are known for getting their jobs done in very different ways.
They've met in the playoffs, although one has had ore success there than the others.
Got it? The answer is just around the bend. Lets put some numbers to that graph to see if it helps.
By wow you have to have figured it out. If not, here's the answer, via a chronological graph:
Ladies and gentlemen, the illustrious playing careers of two of the better known men in baseball today: Kenny Williams and Billy Beane.

I didn't understand the difference in the two graphs, but then noticed the scale. Ouch!

Billy Beane
wouldn’t have brought himself in to play for his team. Williams had a shot at being productive but Beane was just awful every year.

Does Billy Beane measure his players as “value over me as a player”?
Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
If Dustin Pedroia played in Seattle, not many people would be talking about him.

I might be wrong, but didn't Beane build his strategy off of his career?
Seems like I remember ‘Moneyball’ talking about how he was drafted and pushed through the minors purely on tools.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.

I think the Royals are still trying to trade Billy Butler for him

Both are good GM's
Beane struck well, rebuilding fast. I just don’t like Williams strategy though.
