A PITCHf/x Look at Chris Perez
Here's a quick look at Chris Perez's pitching numbers.
First by looking at his ERA, FIP and xFIP you can see the Chris has been a little lucky this year, in that his ERA is lower than his FIP and xFIP:
| ERA | FIPS | xFIPS |
| 4.18 | 4.45 | 4.53 |
Next here a simple look at his 3 predominate pitchers (Slider, Curve and Fastball) along with the flight patterns for all three:
| Fastball (FA) | Slider (SL) | Curve (CU) | |
| Percent Thrown | 63% | 25% | 11% |
| Average Speed | 94.0 | 84.5 | 83.0 |

Finally, I looked for some trends and the only one that is pretty obvious is that Chris's fastball has lost ~1.5 MPH off of it compared to last year. This loss can be seen from this two graphs linked from FanGraphs.com:

Ouch
Kyle may already be right about a possible injury. His declined velocity and control certainly point to it.

Thanks for the info
looks like according to this data he is due for an injury very soon. Combine that with Kyle’s information and he looks to have some major injuries awaiting him which is sad. For any one else reading all these I change my opinion on the trade based on all the available data from these fine writers. Unless the PTNL become more then replacement level I do not like this deal for the Tribe and the Cardinals stole a good player for a very important stretch run. I wonder how Cubs fans feel right now?
