I'm (sorta) Back, Baby! Branyan Langerhans Fingers Makes His Debut

Bender_mediumAs my 13 loyal readers may have noticed, I've been on a bit of a hiatus lately. There's a very good reason for that, and it has nothing to do with Kyle waiting for me to pass through waivers so he could try to dump my contract on some other blog. And, no, I haven't been "tracking down" Dayton Moore to discuss "certain issues" with him. Here's the truth...

On Sunday morning, August 9, at 5:50 a.m. Branyan Langerhans Fingers, my firstborn son, entered the world. Yes, he is named for two of the greatest players in baseball today. I can't wait to start living vicariously through him and forcing him to bring his Z-Game. My plan at the moment is to have him bat lefty, throw righty, and pitch lefty. He's gotta make it that way, amiright?

I had stuff to do to prepare, and now, with my busy instruction schedule along with occasionally helping Mrs. Fingers with the more "domestic" aspects of B.L.'s arrival, I'll be easing back into the blogging thing. It will be off and on a bit for a while, and hopefully this will also help me learn to shorten up my lengthy colums. So much stuff has happened since I began my informal hiatus: prominent Red Sox fans whining even after they got Victor Martinez, silly irrelevant nonsense around B.J. Upton, Josh Hamilton, David Ortiz...

Yeah, most of that stuff I don't care about. I'm here for boring stuff about batting orders, looking at contracts from 2 years ago, and other stuff that's either trivial or been done better, elsewhere. That's what happens when you give a dork a computer.  I'm not a techno-optimist, but the internet has certainly brought enough information to our fingertips that with the help of a few websites there is a seeming abundance of intelligent commentary on baseball for those willing to seek it out.  I'm not sure I have much if anything to add to that, if I ever did.

But that didn't stop me before, did it?

In other words, I'm back, baby!

Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all

Forget fitting Hannahan in there, how is his name not Yuniesky?! Yuniyan Langerhans Fingers. Perfect.

Congrats!

Now with a name like that, I’d start putting money in a piggy bank to help pay for the eventual therapy :-) (I’m kidding, Branyan Langerhans is an awesome name. Way better than “Moon Unit”)

Suggested names for the future:

M’s announcer Dave Neihaus’ suggestions: Langerman, Langerhouse, Launders, Laungers (the last two are inadvertent portmanteaus of Langerhans and Saunders).

Other possibilities:
Hannahan
Gutierrez
Aardsma
Vargas
Chavez
Ackley
Poythress

I hate Neihaus

Yay! More LL-Boddy flame wars!

Seriously, though, you know Neihaus IS Seattle baseball. I can understand if he’s not your cup of tea (comically poor eyesight, over-emotiveness, etc.), but I have a hard time seeing anything there to hate about him if you’re a non-M’s fan.

Although this is getting off the topic of “Yay devil_fingers!”, so feel free to close the subthread if you choose.

Neihaus

Well, I can see why people in Seattle love him because of an emotional attachment from being here forever and yadadada. I’m relatively new to the area (3-4 years) and I’m not really a Mariners fan, though I will go to games and root for them over, say, the White Sox.

Neihaus is just not good at his job. That’s all there is to it. He cannot call a game accurately. On the radio, this isn’t so much of a problem. On TV, when you can clearly see he is a deluded man with poor eyesight, it’s embarrassing.

Congrats

But I just can’t figure out why it wasn’t named Yuniesky Jacobs Fingers or Dayton Trey Fingers. Do you not believe in the process?

Congrats DF!

I am somewhat surprised you didn’t name him Tony Pena, III Fingers.

So does this mean you've commandeered the attic as well as the basement?

Anyway, looking forward to more of your insight and good humor.
